The Creation of Interretire: A Personal story

In my dealings with Interretire clients and potential clients  I am often asked to share what led me to founding Interretire and the motivation behind assisting expatriate executives, migrants and their families plan their return or relocation to Australia.

The answer starts with my own professional journey leaving Australia and my expatriate story.

I started my professional life as a Chartered Accountant at PwC in Australia specialising in Tax, Audit and Staff Training before leaving Australia.

I departed Australia on a 3 month holiday travelling through Asia, Russia and Eastern Europe before commencing work with a  UK stockbroking firm in London and  then Jersey, Channel Islands, working alongside expatriates from all over the world using the Channel Islands as their financial base.

After living in London and Channel Islands, I relocated to Asia establishing a financial planning business working with Australian-focused expatriates and migrants in Jakarta, Singapore, KL and Hong Kong assisting executives with their repatriation planning to Australia.

After 13-plus years offshore, my family and I made the decision to repatriate back to Australia and we as family personally experienced first hand the challenges of returning to Australia.

Questions such as timing for becoming an Australian tax resident, appropriateness of holding assets in offshore and Australia structures (compared to holding in our personal name), tax treatment for overseas and Australian property, shares and equities, navigating international and local insurances as well as foreign and Australian wills to name a few.

Building on my expertise in financial and tax planning, assisting clients repatriate and going through the process myself, I founded InterRetire offering independent repatriation/relocation advice and separately foreign superannuation plans based in Asia and Europe.( www.interretire.com)
